You spent hours creating a digital product… and no one’s buying. Frustrating, right? Before you blame your product, let’s look at the real reasons why your digital product not selling, and how to fix it.
Common Reasons Your Digital Product Not Selling
Here are the reasons why your product isn’t selling (good news: they’re easily fixable…):
Reason #1. Poor Visibility
If I listed a digital product today without promotion, I’d be excited at first…
…But soon enough, the doubts would creep in because nobody is buying it, no matter how cute the product is.
I hate to break it to you, but no one is going to magically land in your store if you don’t actively bring them there.
How Do You Actually Get People to Your Store?
Through… blogging. Yep, you can actually blog about your business and show people how your product solves their problems.
People will always buy a product, digital or not, if it promises the desired outcome, for example making more money, getting in better shape, or improving health. Blogging is an awesome way to demonstrate that in practice using examples, experiences, videos, and well, proof.
You might be thinking, “Blogging is dead. I’ll waste my time, and no one will bother reading.”
Yes, no one will read for the same reason your digital product isn’t selling, if you don’t…
…Get the Basics Right Before You Sell
First, you will need to fix your SEO. Don’t do anything else and don’t promote your site until your website is set up so people can find it organically.
Yes, you can’t rely solely on SEO and hope that people will come. You will need to do more. But having a clean and findable website is the very first step you must take. Not only for Google, but also for AI citations.
Detailed SEO Extension
My favorite tool. Literally. You just install the plugin, and if you go to any online site, you click on the extension, it shows you whether the page is optimized with a URL slug, title, and description.
Guess what?
A perfect tool to…
…spy on your competitors! 🤫
Check this video to see how I use SEO tools to boost my product visibility:
Yoast SEO
If you use WordPress, I highly recommend getting the Yoast SEO plugin. This is not an ad, just a recommendation. The tool shows you, for every single page, where to insert a searchable title, metadata description, and URL slug. Not only that, it also helps you write blogs that are easier to read, mention your keywords enough times, and include keywords in your images.
Podcasts & Books
Alongside tools, I also recommend learning from podcasts and books. My favorite podcast is Phoebe by The Plan Success — she gives simple, practical examples that even beginners can use.
Reading eBooks is also helpful if you want to get all the info… FAST.
Marketing That Works but Nobody Wants to Do
Pinterest is an amazing traffic driver. It brings daily visitors to my store and my blog, helping new people discover my content every day.
The mistake most people make is treating Pinterest like a billboard: “Buy my product, click the link!” Instead, use it to lead people to your blog, show proof and value, teach them something useful, and encourage them to join your email list. Only then should you expect them to buy.
If you want a step-by-step strategy I use, I explain it in my Pinterest eBook.
Reason #2. Weak Targeting
I will give you an example. This year I created my WordPress blog and a site using the Fourthwall website builder. I needed a lot of matching pink images for my websites.
I used both royalty-free stock image websites and AI (Ideogram) to create them.
Yet, many people don’t know how to create matching images with AI, so they buy ready-made ones to set up their websites quickly.
That’s how I came up with the idea to create pink stock images for women who want to build a website.

And guess what?
The product sold.
Before I posted the product, I knew exactly who I was selling to and what problem I was solving.
A common reason digital products don’t sell is uncertainty about who they’re targeting and what problem they solve.
Reason #3. Lack of Trust
I’m in the digital MRR (Master Resell Rights) and PLR (Private Label Rights) space, and let me tell you, trusting someone here is insanely hard.
That’s why on my website I have a clear About page with videos. (This helps with search rankings, keeps people on the page longer, and makes the content more interesting.) The page clearly communicates why someone should trust me over anyone else.
If you’re selling on Etsy, Etsy also gives you the opportunity to create an About page. That’s not by accident, it’s there for a reason. People need to know the story behind your business.

Plus, on my websites, I include customer reviews on almost every page. My footers also link directly to the About page.
Because without trust, nobody is going to buy from you, no matter how great your product is.
Reason #4. Price
Beginners shouldn’t price higher than competitors. Focus on building a customer base and reviews first.
Reason #5. Design
If you are in the visual niche, like Instagram templates, for example, the design can play a big role. Sometimes, the design can be bad, and that is why it may not sell.
Listen, we all start from somewhere.
You’ll create failed designs before you create winners — that’s normal. Focus on progress, not perfection.
We study for years to get good at something, then build our craft and get better and better only because we are constantly practicing. Repetition is what makes us better.
Want your digital products to have higher chances of success? One simple strategy is to spy on your competitors, but just don’t copy them.
Reason #6. Copywriting
I’m still learning daily through YouTube, podcasts, and books.
The good news?
Most people don’t, which gives you an edge.

Reason #7. Not Everything Is Going to Sell
80% of sales come from 20% of products.
You can optimize and promote, but some things won’t become bestsellers, and that’s okay, too.
Sometimes, a specific product just isn’t the right fit for the current market. Don’t be afraid to pivot! If you need a fresh start, you can find a new winner in my guide to 100 digital product ideas you can make this week.
Summary on Why Your Digital Product Not Selling
- Basics aren’t set up right — a clean foundation, including SEO, is essential.
- Your product is for everyone… and ends up appealing to no one.
- Missing About pages = missing customer trust.
- Price is too high compared to competitors.
- Design isn’t strong enough — study your competitors for inspiration (don’t copy).
- Copywriting is often overlooked, yet it can bring huge results with minimal effort.
- Not everything will sell — 80% of sales usually come from 20% of products.
I hope this helps. Remember — not every product will sell, but with the right basics, your chances skyrocket. Keep going, you’ve got this. <3
