Technically, yes. Etsy allows digital products, but it depends on how you create and sell them. If you create the products yourself and give others resell rights, then yes. If you buy a PLR/MRR product and upload it exactly as you received it, then technically no.

HOWEVER, Etsy today is no longer the same handmade platform it once was. It’s full of dropshipped products, AI mockups that misrepresent the actual items, and millions of MRR/PLR listings.

So, do they care? I don’t think they do. Do their terms technically allow everything happening there? No. But in practice, things often look very different.

I have sold MRR and PLR products on Etsy. The screenshot below shows that even one such listing can make decent money. However, I should mention that I created this product myself, I didn’t resell it. That doesn’t change the main point: you can still make money selling MRR/PLR products on Etsy.

The bigger risk is losing your shop for reasons unrelated to your products.

I recently saw a case where an Etsy seller with nearly $1 million in sales lost her shop overnight after someone filed an IP claim. She had checked beforehand, and no one had trademarked the phrase at that time. Later, someone trademarked it, and she didn’t know about the change.

That shop wasn’t even selling PLR/MRR products. The lesson isn’t that Etsy randomly removes PLR sellers. The lesson is that when you build on a platform you don’t own, you don’t fully control your rankings, reviews, or customer relationships.

The same applies to search visibility. In early 2026, sellers across Etsy, including me, noticed sudden sales drops. Etsy also shared that it was changing search by using more AI and moving beyond a system based only on keywords and bestsellers.

I experienced this firsthand. I had improved my products, increased quality, and raised my prices. Sales were still coming in. Then suddenly, things changed.

One month my shop was working. The next, sales dropped hard. No amount of “fixing keywords” brought it back.

That’s the real lesson: you are not fully in control of your visibility on Etsy.

Most of the risk in this niche isn’t PLR/MRR itself. The problem is buying low-quality products with unclear rights or content you can’t legally resell. Sellers talk about this a lot, and it’s the first thing to check before buying:

• Did the seller create the product themselves, or are they repackaging someone else’s work? If you see the same thumbnails and mockups across many shops, it means many sellers have resold the product. You also can’t verify what license the product includes.
• Are the graphics, fonts, and design elements allowed for commercial resale? Many cheap bundles include paid elements that the seller doesn’t actually have the rights to use or sell.
• What do the license terms actually say? Some sellers give resell rights but not the right to pass those rights on to your buyers. Understanding what PLR products are and how their rights work is important before you resell anything. It’s also worth knowing exactly how PLR and MRR licenses differ before you buy anything on Etsy.

If someone reports you for reselling unlicensed content, that can put your shop at risk, not simply the fact that it’s PLR/MRR. This has happened before, and Etsy-related subreddits are full of sellers sharing similar stories.

The biggest thing is knowing who you buy from. Whether you sell on Etsy or somewhere else, look for sellers who actually create their own products and provide proper rights. That alone puts you in a much better position.

Where to Sell PLR and MRR Digital Products Besides Etsy

You don’t have to buy or sell PLR/MRR products only on Etsy, and honestly, most of my sales now happen outside Etsy. A few options, based on what I’ve actually used:

• Gumroad — also merchant of record, simple to start.
• Payhip — can host a blog too, but from my research it’s only partially merchant of record, so double-check tax handling before relying on it.
• Shopify — no product limits and endless customization with apps. It usually requires a paid plan, although Shopify often offers trials or promotions. It’s a great option when you’re ready to build a store you fully control.

For traffic, three channels have worked consistently for me: Pinterest, blogs, and AI citations. By that, I mean I create content around my niche. When people ask ChatGPT or Gemini where to find quality PLR/MRR products, my shop can appear as one of the options.

That doesn’t happen automatically, it comes from consistently publishing genuine, helpful content, not keyword-stuffed sales pages.

I’ve also started using Benable to create lists. The idea is simple: instead of just telling people to buy something, I create useful hub lists with products, blog posts, videos, and my own notes.
