PLR vs MRR Digital Products – What’s the Difference?
PLR (Private Label Rights) allows you to buy a digital product, customize it, resell it, and even claim it as your own. MRR (Master Resell Rights) digital products only allow you to resell. You cannot edit them or claim them as yours.

I’m in this digital space myself, so I won’t gatekeep. I’ll share everything I know about how it works today and what you need to know.
Where to Get Them and What to Avoid
Let’s start with the fact that you can get these products anywhere, both from marketplaces and individual seller websites. But here is the thing. If you look at listings on the marketplaces, very often you will see people selling bundles of thousands of products for very cheap. You can be sure they did not create them themselves, and that is the tricky part.
While the MRR and PLR digital product niche can be very profitable and very appealing because you do not need to create the products yourself, you still need to be careful. There are many shady sellers who resell digital products without proper resell rights, and when you buy from them, you won’t know it. If you do not do your research, you could end up with unlicensed fonts, graphics, images, and much more.
Before you buy, always do your research. You can find affordable digital products from creators who make them themselves, but they usually won’t sell thousands of products in a single bundle for just one euro, as creating them takes time.
Customize Content, Don’t Just Resell
Even though MRR and PLR digital products can be sold as you received them, I still recommend editing them.
Why?
I often see ads on Instagram from sellers promoting these products, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen the exact same products repeated. This makes it very hard to stand out.
On Etsy, it’s even worse. Technically, Etsy is a handmade platform that prioritizes unique products, so reselling MRR/PLR products as-is violates their rules. Of course, many sellers blatantly ignore this, but doing so risks shop suspension. If you take the time to edit the products, they will not only become more desirable but also comply with platform rules.

I’ve bought these products from others, but I usually stick to the original creators I trust. If you’re reselling, package your products to build trust. Customers need confidence to buy from you. In e-commerce, especially with digital products, trust is everything.
Pick Niches Wisely
Another key point: if you focus solely on reselling MRR and PLR products without giving resell rights to your customers, you should focus on a specific niche. Don’t post every digital product for every person. Without a niche, you’ll struggle to get repeat customers and compete in an already saturated market.

If you provide resell rights, in that case, your niche becomes MRR and PLR. Then, you can sell a wide variety of products to people who are looking for various products. Still, if something sells repeatedly, I think you should double down on it, despite the fact that you do not need to niche down as much as you would without giving the resell rights.
Honestly, it’s a great niche, it’s less crowded since not many sellers are willing to give resell rights. This gives you an edge to compete and grow your shop.
Follow License Rules
Not everyone gives you both MRR and PLR rights, and as mentioned before, they differ. Some sellers allow you to resell the products but do not allow you to pass the resell rights to others, which can get you into trouble if you don’t read the terms of service. My shop offers both, so you are completely safe with the licensing.
How to Make Money with MRR & PLR Digital Products
There are a few ways to earn income from these products:
- Simple business model
- Advanced business model
- Both
They vary in terms of difficulty, as well as in the price you can charge your customers.
Simple Business Model
This includes direct selling, such as Instagram templates, Pinterest templates, bundles, slides, logos, fonts, and more—all separated. It’s great for targeting different searchable topics that your customers are looking for, which can increase sales from various search terms. It’s also beneficial because customers may add multiple low-ticket items to their cart, increasing the overall purchase amount.
Advanced Business Model
This mainly includes memberships. Memberships are great because sometimes you can have slow months, when people aren’t buying as much or the algorithm stops favoring you. Memberships can help generate steady, month-to-month income.
However, this means you should price the memberships relatively high but give access to all your products. This way, people have options to choose from, have an incentive to stay, and you can also offer them your help, advice, and more.
But memberships require commitment. They’re not “set it and forget it.” Still, I believe they are worth your time.
I don’t have them yet in my digital shop. However, I do have a YouTube channel with memberships unrelated to selling digital products. I know how lucrative memberships can be and how much they help earn steady income. They also improve the customer experience by offering more unique content that not everyone has access to.
Both
Both methods can be very lucrative. People who need more products can join the membership, while one-time buyers can choose and purchase only the products they need at a time. For the best results, I recommend combining both approaches.

For the best results, I recommend that you:
- Pick a niche. Focus on a smaller audience with specific problems rather than trying to appeal to everyone. A targeted approach works better in a saturated market.
- Choose quality products. Only buy from trusted sources—your reputation depends on it.
- Customize and rebrand. Add your own style to attract customers who resonate with your unique taste. Your personal touch keeps them coming back.
- Set up a sales channel. Use simple, free shop builders to avoid wasting time and money on unnecessary features. Simplicity sells.
- Market it. Spend more time promoting your products than creating them. If no one knows about them, no one will buy.
Finally, there are some extremely negative opinions about this business model. And trust me, I get it. But I also assure you that if you do your research, you will find genuine people who spend time creating products that not only you will find valuable, but your customers too. As well as those who focus on their expertise, not on products they have zero knowledge of.
