Dark Academia Clipart for Commercial Use: What You Can Sell

If you’re looking for dark academia clipart for commercial use, you’re probably not looking for another folder of random graphics.

You need graphics that work for your business, from Etsy products and printables to social media posts, educational resources, and merchandise.

I made the Cozy Dark Academia Clipart Bundle for people who need graphics for their projects. With a set of matching graphics, you can make many different products without starting from scratch each time.

What does “commercial use” actually mean?

The important thing is to check the license before using any clipart in products you sell.

With this bundle, the commercial license allows you to use the illustrations as part of new, finished designs that you sell.

A person holding a die-cut sticker of a cute, brown cartoon owl wearing a maroon bow tie, shown against a cozy, warm-toned bedroom background with a knit blanket, pillows, and a bedside table.

For example, you can use the graphics to create:

  • T-shirts
  • Mugs
  • Tote bags
  • Notebooks
  • Stickers
  • Wall art
  • Printable planners
  • Digital sticker sheets
  • Calendars
  • Journal templates
  • Pinterest pins
  • Instagram graphics
  • Blog graphics
  • Website branding
  • Educational worksheets and teaching resources

The key is that the clipart becomes part of your finished product rather than being sold as the clipart itself.

What you can’t do

The commercial license does not mean you can redistribute the original assets.

You can’t:

  • Resell the original SVG or PNG files
  • Share the graphics as a standalone asset pack
  • Include the raw graphics in a freebie
  • Sell editable templates where the clipart can be extracted
  • Give buyers Master Resell Rights or Private Label Rights to the graphics

So, for example, creating a finished PDF worksheet with the graphics flattened into the design is allowed. Selling a Canva template where your customer can simply click the illustration and extract or reuse it is not.

If you’re selling products made with clipart, this distinction is important.

Why I made this bundle differently

When I was building this collection, I wanted to make sure all the graphics worked well together. I didn’t want buyers to have to mix a book from one artist, a coffee cup from another, and a botanical element from somewhere else.

That can turn a design into a Frankenstein of different art styles.

One image might have soft vintage shading, another might look like a flat cartoon, and another might use bright colors that don’t fit the rest. Each one can look great on its own, but they don’t always look good together.

So I made the bundle cohesive from the start. The colors, details, and overall style are meant to feel like they belong together.

You’ll find books, sweaters, candles, pens, mugs, cameras, food, bows, globes, glasses, characters, and plenty of other design elements, all with the same dark academia feel.

It’s not just decorative clipart

One of my favorite parts of the collection is actually the design elements.

For example, there are scallop elements that you can use as decorative sections or CTA backgrounds.

A Pinterest pin featuring dark academia clipart for commercial use, showcasing a scalloped photo frame border with a person holding a book on a bench, a website URL box, and the text "How to Romanticize Your Reading Life with Dark Academia" above a "Read Now" call-to-action button.

There are also elements such as:

  • Washi tape
  • Speech bubbles
  • Price tags
  • Computers
  • Laptops
  • Phones
  • Computer mice
  • Decorative shapes
  • Flowers
  • Books and stationery

These are useful when you’re creating templates, social graphics, listings, or other branded content, not just when you need a decorative illustration.

SVG + PNG: Why Both?

The bundle includes 276 SVG files and 276 PNG files. I use both formats in my own designs.

I use PNG files in Canva for listing graphics and promotional designs. When I need to change the colors, I use the SVG files. You can recolor them in Canva, but I prefer using software like Adobe Illustrator for more control.

SVG files are great when you need to resize an image. You can make them larger or smaller without the blurry edges you can get with a low-quality image.

PNG files are handy when you just want to add a transparent image to your design and keep going.

I included both formats so you can choose the one that works best for what you’re making.

What makes a dark academia design actually look “dark academia”?

Dark academia doesn’t have to mean black + skulls + gothic horror.

For a cozy interpretation, I think about an old university library, a warm study on a rainy afternoon, books, coffee, aged paper, autumn foliage, and rich muted colors.

The bundle uses warm, dark colors like:

  • Espresso browns
  • Warm amber
  • Old paper
  • Deep forest green
  • Dusty gold
  • Burgundy

Together, these colors give the graphics that warm, cozy dark academia feel.

You also get the color and font direction

The bundle isn’t just a folder of graphics.

You also get:

19 dark academia color palettes in PDF format.

And a PDF with 13 font suggestions for the dark academia aesthetic, including fonts available through Canva.

The fonts themselves aren’t included. You get the names so you have a starting point when creating your designs.

I wanted this to be useful beyond simply downloading the illustrations. Having the colors, fonts, backgrounds and graphics already pointing in the same direction makes it much easier to create a consistent visual identity.

What’s included?

Here’s the quick version:

  • 276 SVG illustrations
  • 276 PNG illustrations
  • 30 SVG & 30 PNG backgrounds, including:
  • 10 portrait backgrounds – 1080 × 1350 px
  • 10 story backgrounds – 1080 × 1920 px
  • 10 landscape backgrounds – 1920 × 1080 px

Plus:

  • 19 dark academia color palettes
  • 13 dark academia font suggestions
  • Commercial-use license for finished end products

The idea is to give you a complete visual toolkit, rather than just a collection of isolated clipart images.

Who is this bundle for?

I’d particularly recommend it if you’re:

It’s useful if you want your designs to match without having to search for or create each graphic yourself.

If you’re trying to build a dark academia brand, start with the look

It’s easy to spend hours searching for individual free graphics.

Then you still have to check the licenses, make the graphics match, change colors, find backgrounds, and pick fonts. And even after all that, some things may still look out of place.

That’s why I made the Cozy Dark Academia Clipart Bundle as part of my larger dark academia collection, so you can start with matching graphics and build your designs from there.

If you’re creating finished products, content, or branding around this aesthetic and want the graphics, backgrounds, colors and font direction already working together, you can see the full bundle here:
